工藝特點（1）反應性好，脫硫效率高濕法脫硫的反應強度取決于脫硫劑堿金屬離子的溶解堿性。由于鎂離子的溶解堿性比鈣離子高數百倍，因而鎂基脫硫劑具有比鈣基脫硫劑高數十倍的脫硫反應能力。工業(yè)實踐證明，鎂基脫硫劑能比鈣基脫硫劑更高的脫硫效率，可達99%以上，同時采用鎂基脫硫所要求的噴淋水量僅相當于達到同樣脫硫效率的鈣基脫硫的1/3，耗電量也大為降低。

由于反應強度高，鎂基噴淋反應吸收塔的高度只有鈣基脫硫的2/3左右，因此，鎂基脫硫的主體設備的造價要明顯低于鈣基吸收塔。同時，由于氧化鎂的分子量（40）是氧化鈣（56）的73%，是碳酸鈣（石灰石，分子量為100）的40%，因此，去除等量的二氧化硫所需的氧化鎂要比鈣基少得多，而且MgO又以粉狀供貨，脫硫劑供給系統也比鈣基脫硫大大簡化，降低了系統的造價。比較表明，氧化鎂脫硫設備的造價一般可比石灰石/石膏法低10～15%左右。
